Chemical Heritage Museum

Science has a story, in fact many compelling stories. The Science History Institute is a free museum and library in Philadelphia, dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and sharing the important stories of chemistry, chemical engineering, and the life sciences for a global audience. While science shapes every aspect of our daily lives, people rarely understand how, why, or where that happens. We change that with inventive, compelling, and free stories of science delivered as podcasts, digital exhibitions, on-line magazine stories, and educational resources. The Science History Institute is a free digital resource, virtual and physical, with a museum and library located in Old City Philadelphia. It serves the public as a trusted cultural resource, sharing the “stories behind the science” to encourage people to think differently about the role of science in their world.
With Chemistry teacher, Greta Glugoski, Grace Sharples Cooke, Director, Office of the President, will jointly present a program of orientation to Science History Institute web-based resources that can be used to supplement curricula and add human depth, nuance, and fascination to science instruction in Middle and High School. The chemical and life sciences are, and have been, dominant tools used to understand and make use of the natural world. Exploring the history of these sciences offers new ways of thinking about and valuing the world around us, now and in the future.
