About me
I'm originally from the San Francisco Bay area and went to Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR where I was a chemistry major and theatre minor. I then did my graduate work at Purdue University where I received a Master of Chemical Education and a PhD in inorganic chemistry. I started my teaching career at Pepperdine University and then moved to Emory University in 2006 to take on a full-time teaching position. I focus my teaching on introductory chemistry and advanced inorganic. Over the past decade I've had the opportunity to help lead Emory’s reform efforts which have resulted in Chemistry Unbound, an innovative undergraduate curriculum.I am the faculty advisor for ChEmory, Emory’s ACS award-winning undergraduate chemistry club, and have been engaged in the development of multiple courses, including and advanced lab called “The Chemistry of Color.” I use of chemistry demos to engage a wide range of audiences with the potential of chemistry. These include in depth demos on marshmallow Peeps and the Ping Pong Bing Bang Blas at the Atlanta Science Festival
