Curious about Standards-Based Grading (SBG) but unsure how to fit it into a traditional grading system? This workshop is designed for educators who want to harness the powerful benefits of SBG—clearer learning targets, more meaningful feedback, and a focus on growth—while still meeting their school’s requirements for points, percentages, and letter grades.

Join us to explore a unique hybrid grading system, developed and refined over more than five years, that blends the strengths of SBG with the practicalities of conventional grading. We’ll dive into the rationale behind the system, strategies for creating Learning Targets for each unit, and methods for building crucial buy-in from stakeholders, including students, parents, and administrators.

In the hands-on application portion, you’ll work collaboratively to adapt this system to your own courses, creating NGSS-aligned (or other) Learning Targets that prioritize student understanding. Through backward design, you’ll begin developing assessments that measure meaningful progress and can be seamlessly integrated into your existing grading practices.

Walk away with a toolkit of adaptable resources, ideas, and connections with other forward-thinking educators. Join us to bridge the best of both grading worlds and inspire a new level of clarity and growth in your students’ learning journey.
