ChemEd 2025

With over 30 years of experience teaching college-level chemistry at institutions ranging from CU Denver to the U.S. Naval Academy, my focus is on teaching introductory courses in a way that is accessible to all students. My primary research emphasis is on metacognition in chemistry and its role in student success. I am passionate about enhancing the learning experience for students, whether in the classroom, through research mentorship or by teaching students how to teach chemistry to others. In addition to teaching, I supervise 20 undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants each year and manage all the general chemistry labs at our university. A strong advocate for making chemistry engaging and relevant, I am dedicated to fostering a love for the subject among beginning students by connecting chemistry concepts to real-world events.
