About me
Derrick C. Wood is an award-winning chemistry educator, author, scholar, and science ambassador. Identified as a “Superstar in Chemistry Education” by Chemical & Engineering News, Derrick has earned the recognition of three national awards, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math & Science Teaching bestowed by President Barack Obama in 2015. He has been recognized repeatedly for his innovative teaching methods, coaching, and mentoring throughout his 21-year teaching career. As a Guinness World Record holder along with his students in the Egg Drop, Derrick is passionate about getting students excited about STEM. He is a lifelong learner and scholar, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Drew University, a master’s in chemistry education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s in education with leadership emphasis from Cabrini University. Derrick received his Ed.D from Cabrini University in 2020, with his dissertation research focusing on the underrepresentation of females in STEM fields and how that relates to STEM identity formation.
